“Fern Blanket”

“Fern Blanket” was created during my stay at Pilchuck Glass School as the Emerging Artist in Residence technician in 2005. It is a large relief wall piece and the largest glass casting I have created to date at 4 feet by 2 feet. This piece is made of glass I gleamed from the schools recycle. The school is located in the middle of a 500 acre tree farm and the glass recycle is tucked down a road below the main school. The only time I have seen a black bear in person in the wild was while I was scoring some free glass from the recycle stash. The glass was kept in a large metal container. Rust from the container mixed with the glass gives a gorgeous marble effect.
